Located on the campus of the University of Nevada, Reno, the John and Geraldine Lilley Museum of Art is always free and open to the public. The permanent collection includes work from a number of talented Nevada artists, including Craig Sheppard, Sheldon Pennoyer, Jim McCormick, Hans Meyer Kassel, Maynard Dixon, and Louis Siegrist.
Wilbur D. May Center – 1595 N. Sierra St., Reno, NV 89503
Wilbur D. May lived a fascinating life, from fighting in WWI to piloting some of the earliest planes, traveling the world, and eventually amassing a personal fortune. Much of that fortune went toward philanthropic works, as well as the purchase of fine art and sculpture from around the world. Some of the items were donated to other museums after May's passing, but many are still on display at the Wilbur D. May Center. In addition to the art, this is a great place to learn about a man with a truly interesting story and perhaps spend some time relaxing in the botanical gardens, as well.
Reno Tahoe International Art Show – 4590 S. Virginia St., Reno, NV 89502
While it's not technically a museum that's open full-time throughout the year, the Reno Tahoe International Art Show is very much in the spirit of the best art museums, and it's a huge annual event that you can only enjoy in Reno. This year's Reno Tahoe International Art Show is set for September 12-15, 2024, at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center. With more than 160,000 square feet packed with art and the chance to meet talented artists from across the globe, this is an incredible event for art lovers. It's also an annual event, so if you miss 2024, there's always 2025 and beyond.
